Nagoya’s Piyorin Dessert: Café Closure, Takeout Shop, and Buying Tips

Nagoya’s most adorable sweet, Piyorin, has been a must-try treat for visitors passing through JR Nagoya Station. Shaped like a tiny yellow chick, this custard pudding dessert covered in sponge cake and cream has been winning the hearts of travelers since its debut in 2011.

In August 2025, the long-loved “Piyorin STATION Café Jannshiane” inside JR Nagoya Station concourse served its last customer and officially closed its doors. The café had been a popular spot where fans could sit down and enjoy freshly made Piyorin with drinks in a relaxed atmosphere.

Don’t worry—Piyorin is still available!

Although the café has closed, Piyorin lovers can still enjoy this Nagoya specialty. Inside the station, you will find the “Piyorin Shop”, a takeout-only store dedicated to selling Piyorin. Travelers can easily pick up the dessert while catching their train, making it a convenient souvenir or snack during your journey.

The Piyorin Shop usually offers limited seasonal designs in addition to the classic chick, so repeat visitors can always discover something new.

What makes Piyorin special?

  • Adorable appearance: Its fluffy yellow chick shape makes it one of the most Instagram-worthy sweets in Japan.
  • Delicate flavor: The dessert is made with smooth Nagoya Cochin egg custard pudding, wrapped in soft sponge and cream.
  • Exclusive to Nagoya: You can only buy authentic Piyorin at Nagoya Station, which makes it a true regional specialty.

How to find the Piyorin Shop

The Piyorin Shop is located inside JR Nagoya Station, right next to the entrance of the Shinkansen (bullet train) gates, within the central concourse area. Look for the bright yellow chick signs—it’s hard to miss! Since it is inside the station building, you don’t need to exit the ticketed area if you are transferring between trains.

📍 Address: JR Nagoya Station, Central Concourse (near Shinkansen entrance)

Looking ahead: a new Piyorin space in 2026

The closure of the café doesn’t mean the end of Piyorin culture. Plans are underway to open a new space in spring 2026, where visitors can “enjoy Piyorin even more.” Details are not yet revealed, but fans can expect a refreshed experience that highlights the charm of this beloved local dessert.

Tips for Buying Piyorin

If you’re planning to take home this famous chick-shaped dessert, here are some useful tips:

📸 Take photos quickly—Piyorin is delicate, and it may lose its cute shape if left out for too long.

🕘 Line up about 30 minutes before each sales time to increase your chances of getting one.

🧊 Bring a cooler bag or ice pack if you want to carry Piyorin for a longer time, especially in summer.

📦 Consider the “anti-shock” box sold at the shop to prevent your Piyorin from collapsing on the way.

🎁 Perfect as a souvenir—but buy it on the day you plan to gift or eat it, since it doesn’t keep overnight.
