Daikanyama’s New Icon: Dior Bamboo Pavilion

On February 12, a striking new destination opened in Tokyo’s stylish Daikanyama: the Dior Bamboo Pavilion.
More than a luxury boutique, this unique space is a new concept store by Dior, blending Parisian elegance with Japanese craftsmanship and contemporary art.

Located in one of Tokyo’s most design-forward neighborhoods, the pavilion offers visitors a rare opportunity to experience Dior through architecture, art, fashion—and even coffee.

A Dialogue Between Paris and Japan

The Dior Bamboo Pavilion is designed as a journey between cultures. The interior expresses Dior’s heritage while celebrating Japan’s creative spirit, featuring works by Japanese artists and artisans throughout the space.

At the heart of the store, the central floor is surrounded by washi paper walls, creating a calm, gallery-like atmosphere. For the opening, traditional lanterns by Kyoto’s long-established Kojima Shoten were installed, softly illuminating the space.

Each room has a distinct theme, combining French and Japanese design traditions:

  • Versailles-style parquet flooring
  • Yamagata dantsu (traditional Japanese carpets)
  • Moiré-patterned wallpaper
  • Tatami-inspired ceilings

The result is an elegant fusion that feels both luxurious and deeply rooted in Japanese aesthetics.

Art, Craft, and Dior Codes

Art plays a central role throughout the pavilion. The fitting rooms feature installations by artist Hana Mitsui, who reinterprets Dior’s iconic Toile de Jouy using igusa (rush grass) and embroidery.

Other highlights include:

  • Furniture by TAKT PROJECT, encasing Dior’s Cannage pattern in resin
  • Sustainable daybeds and vases by we+, made from recycled materials
  • Wooden tables and chairs by designer Sho Ota
  • Atmospheric bamboo light installations by CHIKAKEN

Every corner of the space feels curated, making it a must-visit even for non-shoppers.

Café Dior: A Garden of Art and Flowers

Inside the pavilion, visitors will find Café Dior, a serene café where fashion meets floral art.

Renowned florist Azuma Makoto created installations titled Palludarium and Block Flower, highlighting the individuality and beauty of flowers. Delicate paper-cut floral artworks by Ayumi Shibata appear to cascade from the ceiling, transforming the café into an immersive art space.

Azuma Makoto also designed the inner garden, inspired by the garden in Granville, where Christian Dior spent his childhood—reimagined through a contemporary Japanese lens.

Café reservations are required and can be made via Dior’s official website.

Exclusive Fashion You Can Only Find Here

The Dior Bamboo Pavilion offers a curated selection of ready-to-wear and accessories, mixing men’s and women’s collections designed by Jonathan Anderson.

Visitors will also find store-exclusive items, including:

  • Dior Book Tote bags
  • Leather goods
  • Knitwear and T-shirts available only at this location

For fashion lovers, this makes the pavilion a true destination—not just a showroom.
