Odaiba Unicorn Gundam to Close in August 2026! See It Now

If you are planning a trip to Tokyo, you need to update your itinerary immediately. One of Tokyo’s most famous pop-culture landmarks—the Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam Statue in Odaiba—is officially ending its exhibition at the end of August 2026.

Here is everything you need to know about its history, features, and how to see it before it’s gone forever.

── The History: From 2009 to 2026

Tokyo’s giant Gundam journey started back in 2009 with the original RX-78-2 Gundam, built to celebrate the anime’s 30th anniversary. After capturing the world’s attention, the current “Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam Statue” took over the spot in September 2017.

For 8 years and 11 months, this massive 19.7-meter-tall guardian has welcomed millions of international tourists, serving as the ultimate symbol of Japan’s anime culture. Sadly, its long running mission will officially come to an end this August.

── Why It’s a Must-See (The Magic of Unicorn Gundam)

This isn’t just a static statue; it is a masterpiece of engineering. If you haven’t seen it yet, here is what makes it so special:

  • The Massive Scale: Standing at 19.7 meters (64.6 feet) tall and weighing 49 tons, standing beneath its feet is a jaw-dropping experience.
  • The Epic Transformation: During the day, you can watch it physically transform from “Unicorn Mode” to “Destroy Mode”—complete with moving faceplates, opening shoulders, and unfolding armor.
  • Nighttime Light & Sound Show (WALL-G): At night, the statue glows with built-in LEDs while epic anime footage and music are projected onto the building behind it.

💡 Special Finale Event: Leading up to the grand finale in late August, the statue will feature exclusive new decal decorations and special farewell events!

── How to Get There (Access)

The statue is located right outside DiverCity Tokyo Plaza in the futuristic bayside district of Odaiba.

  • By Train (Yurikamome Line): A 5-minute walk from Daiba Station. (Enjoy the scenic driverless train ride across the Rainbow Bridge!)
  • By Train (Rinkai Line): A 3-minute walk from Tokyo Teleport Station. (Fastest route from Shinjuku or Shibuya).

── Don’t Wait—Go See It Now!

Once August 2026 ends, this legendary landmark will be dismantled. While Bandai has teased a new “Gundam Landmark Concept” for the future, nothing can replace the breathtaking view of the Unicorn Gundam standing against the Tokyo sky.

If you are in Japan between now and August, make sure to visit Odaiba, grab some exclusive merchandise at the nearby Gundam Base Tokyo, and take your final photos with this anime icon.

Time is ticking—don’t miss your last chance to witness anime history in the making!
